Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, born in 1860, died in Vienna on May 18, 1911, after spending the last three years of his life in New York conducting the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic. Why does it matter? Because the 100th anniversary of his death passed this week, and in recognition his third symphony will be performed tonight, right in downtown Princeton. The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra performs in Richardson Auditorium tonight at 8 p.m., with tickets from $20 to $82. If you miss tonight you can still see the concert, but you'll have to travel to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark for Saturday's show or the State Theater in New Brunswick for Sunday's show.
